A Hope for Our Generation

ok so this is a poem i am working on to perform at the next open mic night. tell me wat u think.


Everyday I see faces with spaces
And people in places
That I never thought I’d see
All around us, lives, precious lives
Are falling to pieces
Furrowed brows covered in creases
With the dawning of a new age
Depression
Anxiety
With the pains that society
Has pushed onto shoulders
Too young and too weak to bear the burden
Or know the difference
When do we stop this hypocritical flow
Of stubbing toes
And crashing blows
Making foes of those
Who don’t even know
What they’re up against
When do we stop and think
Whoa… this doesn’t make any sense
That lost generation is crying for justice
Calling for healing
But dying for dealing
We sell their souls for cheap pleasure
And parlor tricks
You people that are hurting
You’re reaching out to anything and everything
To stop it
You pop those pills
Drop those lines
Cop that attitude of “its all fine”
But it’s not all fine
It’s all a lie
A single finger on a trigger
You can’t see there’s
Something bigger than all this world
Has to offer
But I can show you what love is
Because I may have never been there, where you are
I may not know what it’s like
But I know what He’s like
And He knows what your like
And somewhere out there someone
Knows what it could be like
So don’t tell me you don’t want it
Because I know it
And you know it
So they know it
And we know it
That everybody wants the Love of all loves
To be accepted
Not rejected
To be vulnerable once more
Our innocence was stolen
Like petals ripped from roses
And the lesson I suppose is
That we cant let that happen ever,
Ever again
But He’s not asking for a little
Of what you can give
Or how you should live
He wants it all…
All the pain and bane
All the plain and insane
And everything that causes strain
Not just good days
Not just good deeds
He wants the flowers
AND the weeds
See that Devil tells you lies
Because he wants to hear your cries
But what he doesn’t know is that he’s pushing you
Into the arms of Love
So raise your voice in praise
Lift His name up all your days
Follow Him in all your ways
Because our JESUS SAVES!
