Dragon Lore

Winged mistress of the skies
Swooping, swooning, calling sighs

Clouds part before her frame
Mortal man won’t dare to tame

Breathing fire from within
Mighty dragon, last of kin

Claws and fangs, sharp as steel
Stalk and grasp an ample meal

Shining scales, the purest stone
Magic words are also known

Green eyes fierce as raging storm
Fighting all with perfect form

Flying steed at home on earth
None were present at your birth

Cruelly forgotten, cast off you were
Left for those with hoofs and fur

Witless things unable to soar
Lost anew, our dragon lore

What became of unicorns?
Swallowed up by time and thorns

Centaurs too have loped away
Gone forever and a day

Pixies, ogres, even elves
All just pages on my shelves

Griffins with their catlike ways
Fly away their wings they raise

Dragons please come back to me
Live again and be free

Legends and myths are all that survive
But I know you’re real and once were alive
